Daryl Somerville, a 57-year-old inmate serving a life sentence for first-degree rape out of Tuscaloosa County at Ventress Correctional Facility in Clayton, Alabama, passed away on September 6. Inmate Somerville, who suffered from multiple, end-stage, pre-existing medical conditions, tested positive for COVID-19 on August 23 and was transferred to a local hospital. On September 3, he was discharged back to the facility’s infirmary, where he remained until his passing.
The ADOC has confirmed that thirty-six (36) additional inmates have tested positive for COVID-19 as of September 10:
