Minimum-In: Work assignments for Minimum-In inmates must be on-property at a minimum, medium or close security facility and may be supervised
by non-security personnel with the express approval of the Warden/designee.
Minimum-Out: Minimum-Out inmates can be assigned to off-property work details without the direct supervision of correctional officers. Minimum-Out inmates will
generally be assigned to Community Work Centers (CWC), with higher security facilities only maintaining a small number for job assignments requiring minimal supervision.
Minimum-Community (Min-Comm): Inmates in this custody are allowed gainful employment in the community on a full-time basis and will be supervised in community based facilities when not working.
Medium:(security level four) correctional facilities are designed for housing inmates who have demonstrated less severe behavioral problems. Inmates are considered to be suitable for participation in formalized institutional treatment programs, work assignments, or other activities within the confines of an institution.

Kilby Correctional Facility opened in December 1969 and is located on 154 acres outside of Montgomery, AL. Kilby is responsible for receiving all inmates, except death row and youth offenders, into the state prison system for further evaluation, classification, and assignment to other correctional facilities.
In addition to the Receiving and Classification Center, Kilby furnishes the prison system with hospital services that includes medical and mental health treatment. The medical facilities provide comprehensive health care services including dental services and mental health care. Medical treatment includes free world specialty care and all related support services.
On-site employee training programs are conducted at Kilby for local security and support personnel within the Montgomery area.
Inmate programs offered by Kilby includes anger management, NA/AA, a chapter of the Volunteers in Corrections, sex offenders therapy, GED/ABE educational classes; 12-Step alcohol/drug counseling, chaplaincy services, and individual and group therapy offered as part of an on-going mental health program. Kilby also manages a pre-release program that prepares inmates for their transition from prison back to society. Kilby also has a correctional industry plant for printing and graphic arts, and maintains an institutional garden for fresh produce. Kilby is classified as a close-custody correctional facility.
