Inaugural ACESF Scholarships Awarded

The Alabama Correctional Employee Support Fund is proud to announce its first six scholarship winners. The ACESF formally incorporated in 2010 as a not-for-profit corporation with tax-exempt status pending IRS approval. The ACESF is dedicated to providing financial support and assistance to employees of the Alabama Department of Corrections and members of their families who are needy, ill, or distressed because of disaster, hardship, or other circumstances. Through fundraising efforts and awards, the Alabama Correctional Employee Support Fund attempts to reinforce the ADOC’s belief that our employees are our most valuable asset. All donations to this fund help make it possible to provide monetary assistance to our family of fellow ADOC employees in times of emergency need.

The task of providing public safety does not end after a criminal is taken off the streets. In fact, that’s when the real work begins for all corrections professionals. Yet, our mission is often unnoticed and most certainly undervalued.

“Through support of our fellow employees, the Alabama Correctional Employee Support Fund is attempting to more clearly define the ADOC’s values and make them more tangible,” said Brian Corbett, President of the ACESF. “We are privileged to honor the talented and ambitious children of our correctional professionals, and especially pleased to assist our current employees who aspire to further their education.”

Congratulations to all of our 2010 scholarship winners!

About The Scholarship

Who may apply?

Alabama Correctional Employee Support Fund offers college scholarships to employees, or their children and grandchildren.

The ACESF does not, and will not discriminate, on the basis of race, color, sex, religion or national origin or on any other basis in either the application process or in the consideration and granting of the scholarships provided by the ACESF.

Scholarship Conditions

The amount of scholarships will be $1,000 for undergraduate students, $1,500 for graduate students and $500 for previous award recipients. The number of scholarship awarded depends upon donations received by the ACESF.

Scholarships awarded by the ACESF will be transmitted directly to the educational institution for credit to the student’s account at the institution with notification of receipt to be received from the educational institution.

In order for the scholarship funds to be received to the benefit of the scholarship recipient, the student must enroll on a full-time basis at the institution selected, which full-time status must be certified to by the institution. Failure to qualify as a full-time student will result in a rescission of the scholarship with the funds being returned from the institution to the ACESF. The only exception to this rule is for current active ADOC employees who may enroll on a part time basis; and except as determined by the ACESF on a nondiscriminatory basis, there will be no deferral of enrollment.
